Through the annual Play Court Construction and Park Site Works Program, the City aims to provide additional outdoor recreational opportunities to meet the needs and interests of the surrounding communities, and offer engaging experiences for all visitors. The City’s vision is to seamlessly integrate new play court opportunities within existing City parks to:

  • Encourage social, physical, and mental engagement of persons of all ages and abilities (universal design)
  • Foster motor and social skills, while providing excitement and challenge
  • Further promote parks as community gathering spaces and activity hubs

Past Project Details

All 2024 court projects were deemed substantially complete as of November 2024. Line painting of the courts is expected to be completed in spring 2025.

ParkProject Description
Barrie Community Sports Complex A new full-sized multi-use court has been installed east of the existing playground. This court accommodates basketball and ball hockey. In winter, the court can be flooded to serve as an ice rink. New accessible pathways built and trees planted.
Cartwright Park

The City connected with Barrie residents to learn about the community’s interests and needs for Cartwright Park related to the proposed play court feature. A full-sized unlit multi-use basketball court was constructed near the playground, per the feedback received.

Robin Court Park

The City connected with Barrie residents to learn about the community’s interests and needs for Robin Court Park related to the proposed play court feature. A half-sized unlit basketball court was constructed.

Shalom Park
