Stormwater Asset Maintenance & Repairs

Project Type
Stormwater & Creeks
Status
Substantially Completed

The Technical and Stormwater Operations section of the Operations Department, in collaboration with the Corporate Asset Management Department, consistently strive to ensure that the City’s assets are adequately maintained in the most cost-effective manner. Staff routinely undertake inspections of stormwater assets to ensure the safety and reliability of public infrastructure and surrounding lands, as well as the protection of the local environment.

This project demonstrates stewardship for both the City’s assets and the local environment. By addressing this required maintenance promptly, and not allowing the conditions to worsen, the City is able to avoid the potential of unplanned service disruptions for both the roadway and other utilities.

As of December 9, 2024, the work at all three sites is substantially complete.

Site 1: Fairview Road

This operational project rehabilitated severe erosion within the road embankment slope on Fairview Road and remove deposited soils from the City’s culvert and a section of Whiskey Creek. The repairs at this site stabilized the active erosion and restore the function of the creek, while addressing the root cause to provide a long-term benefit to the community.

Site 2: Ferndale Drive North

This operational project rehabilitated severe erosion at a storm sewer outfall structure on Ferndale Drive North. The repairs at this site stabilized the active erosion, while addressing the root cause to provide a long-term benefit to the community.

A temporary closure of the southbound curb lane and west sidewalk between Edgehill Drive and the Landfill entrance was in effect for the duration of the project. The temporary closures were necessary to complete the work, and the City greatly appreciates the patience and understanding of motorists and pedestrians during this time.

Site 3: Bear Creek Drive

This operational project included maintenance and reconstruction of the outlet berm and spillway at Stormwater Management Facility BR08a, located off of Bear Creek Drive. The scope of work included constructing an armourstone weir, armourstone drop structures, an armourstone retaining wall and a stone-lined channel with riffle-pool morphology.
