The City’s Licence 2 Ride (L2R) Pass is offered to youth aged 12–17 and provides the chance to ride for free on Barrie Transit & play for free at the City's three main recreation centres during summer months. The 2026 Licence 2 Ride card is valid July 1–September 7, 2026.
The Licence 2 Ride Pass is intended to build future transit riders through education and familiarity of the system, along with motivating a healthy lifestyle by providing access to Recreation facilities and programming. The L2R pass permits free unlimited use on Barrie Transit and access to drop-in recreation programs at any of the three main recreation centres.
Did you know? Over 1,700 L2R passes were given out in 2025. Pass holders visited a City recreation/community centre 5,362 times, and over 12,000 transit rides were taken by L2R pass holders.

How to Apply
Applications are being accepted while quantities last on a first-come, first-served basis. The Licence 2 Ride card is valid July 1–September 7, 2026.
There are two ways you can apply:
- Download and print the Licence 2 Ride application, complete it and bring it to Allandale Recreation Centre, East Bayfield Community Centre or Peggy Hill Team Community Centre. Hard copy application forms are also available at the three main centres.
- New this year! Parents/guardians can apply for the L2R participant online by visiting play.barrie.ca and following the instructions.
For either application method, youth must visit a community centre in person to show proof of age and have their photo taken before receiving their Licence 2 Ride pass.
