(Barrie, ON) – The City will remove all Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras in Barrie by November 14, 2025, following recently passed provincial legislation banning ASE cameras in Ontario municipalities. The City previously announced a phasing out of the ASE program; a decision that was made ahead of the Province of Ontario’s announcement of legislation to ban ASE across the province. ASE cameras went live in Barrie on December 1, 2023.
Any outstanding tickets, and new tickets issued between now and when the cameras are removed, remain valid. Refunds will not be issued. All funds generated from the ASE program are used to fund road safety and traffic calming initiatives.
Barrie City Council has directed staff to apply to the Province of Ontario for $5 million in funding to install traffic safety and calming measures in Barrie, and approved increased funding for traffic calming measures in the interim by an additional $500,000 ($50,000 per ward), using funds generated from the ASE program.
As part of City Council’s priority of community safety, the City currently uses many traffic calming measures and road safety practices to keep Barrie’s streets safe. For information on current traffic calming measures in Barrie, visit barrie.ca/TrafficCalming.
