The City is undertaking a reconstruction of Orchard Drive from St. Vincent to the end of the street. The project is currently in the detailed design phase.
The reconstruction will include the replacement of the road and subsurface infrastructure, including watermain, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, and streetlight upgrades. The provision of sidewalk will be considered with this reconstruction.
Infrastructure on Orchard Drive is in poor condition and needs to be replaced. There are water infiltration and inflow risks, and known capacity deficiencies in the sanitary sewer. There are also outdated construction standards, and related work taking place in the immediate area; therefore Orchard Drive was identified for full right-of-way reconstruction.
Project Updates
March 28, 2025
The City has retained a geotechnical consultant that will be responsible for collecting soils data within the municipally-owned right-of-way. The consultant is scheduled to complete the field investigations in the week of March 31, 2025. The design team will use the data collected to advance the project.
You may see steel drums left on the edge of the roadway; if so, these will contain soil spoils from the drilling operation and will be removed from the site once the operation is completed.
While we do not anticipate any major disruptions, there will be brief periods of activity on the street, including minor traffic adjustments for safety. Access to properties is to be maintained through the investigation.
