The reconstruction of Poyntz Street was prompted by the need to replace a transmission watermain that services the east end of Barrie. The existing infrastructure along the roadway was also nearing the end of its useful life and required replacement.
The project was awarded to North Rock Group Ltd. They commenced construction in spring 2022 and completed much of the work by the fall of 2022. Some work, final paving, restorations, etc. were completed in the spring of 2023. The project is now in its warranty period that will end in fall 2024.
Project Updates
September 2022: Dunlop Street from Mulcaster Street to Collier Street will be closed from Wednesday September 7 to Friday September 9 to complete the final watermain connections and restoration.
July 2022: Curbs have been installed on Codrington St. and Berczy St. with asphalt expected mid-month in this area. Sidewalk and boulevard grading, topsoil, and sod to follow. Underground infrastructure installation is ongoing along Poyntz St. from Dunlop St. E. to Worsley St. and will continue through July and August 2022. To accommodate construction, the intersection of Collier St. and Poyntz St. will close July 18th for approximately six (6) weeks. Motorists are advised to follow detour routes which will be marked accordingly. Transit will be detoured with most stops maintained or moved slightly.
