This church has been located in the core of Barrie since 1864, when the cornerstone of the sanctuary was laid. At the time, it was a Methodist church, but it became part of the United Church of Canada in 1925. This beautiful, historical sanctuary retains much of its original architecture and houses many stained-glass windows and a large pipe organ.

As part of Culture Days Barrie, John Charles, Director of Music at Collier Street United Church, will lead you through an interactive tour of Collier's magnificent pipe organ. The pipe organ of Collier Street United Church is a 3-manual instrument with 40 ranks of pipes disposed in 5 divisions: swell, great, choir, positif and pedal. The instrument has a total of 2,464 speaking pipes, ranging in length from 3/5" to 16'. It is an example of excellence in design and voicing, and is well suited to recitals as well as accompanying choirs and congregational singing.

Doors Open Barrie is supported by Creative Barrie, the cultural development branch of the Economic & Creative Development Department. This year, Doors Open Barrie is incorporated into the City’s Culture Days programming. When paired with Culture Days, it provides a unique opportunity to present free, hands-on arts activities in Doors Open sites, giving residents and visitors a chance to learn about Barrie’s arts, heritage and business community.
