Free community events to share cooking safety tips
(Barrie, ON) – Barrie Fire & Emergency Service (BFES) invites residents to participate in Fire Prevention Week from October 8 to 14, 2023. This year’s theme focuses on cooking safety.
“Unattended cooking is the leading cause of cooking fires and serious injuries,” says Fire Chief Cory Mainprize. “We invite everyone to join us for informative and fun events during Fire Prevention Week to learn more about kitchen hazards to avoid and how to reduce risks.”
BFES is hosting a number of free-to-attend events during Fire Prevention Week, including:
- Cooking with Fire workshop for 55+ (October 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)
Parkview Centre, 189 Blake St.
Registration is required. Please call 705-737-0755 to register. Cook a meal with Barrie Fire staff while learning about kitchen safety tips. - Community Celebration (October 13 from 5 to 8:30 p.m.)
Peggy Hill Team Community Centre, 171 Mapleton Ave.
Open skate and swim, cooking workshop for youth, meet Sparky, tour a fire truck, and participate in games and crafts - Workshop for kids (October 14 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.)
Home Depot, 10 Barrie View Dr.
Barrie Fire will be joining Home Depot’s workshop for kids and will have a fire truck on site
Since 1922, the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) has sponsored the public observance of Fire Prevention Week–a week where everyone can learn how to stay safe in case of a fire.
