The Ferndale Water Tower, located at 434 Ferndale Drive North, required improvements of the exterior protective coating to ensure the long-term integrity of the water tower.
Painting of the tower was originally completed in 2003. During a 2020 inspection, it was found that the exterior of the tank required repairs.
Project Updates
November 19, 2024
The project was completed on October 8, 2024. The work involved repairing minor defects and rust in the existing paint coatings followed by applying additional coats of paint (overcoat). The City of Barrie logo was also updated as part of the work.
The overcoat is expected to protect and extend the life of the underlying paint between 15 to 20 years. Without this overcoat, the City was looking at removing the existing paint back to bare steel, repair any damage to the steel, and repainting within 5 years.
