MacMorrison Park Stormwater Retrofit

Project Type
Stormwater & Creeks
Project #
EN1242
Status
In Progress

Sophia Creek flows through MacMorrison Park and is currently prone to flooding during rain events.

The City is looking at alternatives to provide an engineered flood control feature in MacMorrison Park. This would help reduce flooding in the downstream areas from MacMorrison Park to Lake Simcoe.

Project Updates

January 9, 2024

The consultant has prepared and provided a feasibility study, including preliminary design options in July 2023. Further public consultation will be undertaken to gather feedback on the project (timing to be determined).

Schedule

May 2021–July 2023Feasibility Study
TBDPublic Consultation

Due to the existing culvert at Bothwell Crescent and the limited capacity in the downstream channel, the City is exploring the feasibility and preliminary design options only. If the outcome of this project is determined to be beneficial for flood control in the watershed and economically viable, the City will host a Public Information Centre to solicit public feedback on the project before proceeding with detailed design and construction.
