(Barrie, ON) – The City of Barrie reminds residents of the following schedule changes during the holidays:
Barrie Transit
There will be no transit service on December 25 and January 1. On December 26, Barrie Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule with added early morning service. On New Year's Eve (December 31), Barrie Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule with added late-night service until 3am, and service will be free on New Year's Eve from 5pm until the end of service. Curbside Collection
There will be no curbside waste collection on December 25 and January 1. Collection will occur ONE day later for the remainder of both weeks. Residents are reminded to have their materials curbside by 7am.
Landfill
The landfill will be closed on December 25, December 26 and January 1.
City Hall
City Hall will be closed on December 25, December 26 and January 1.
Recreation
The City’s three major recreational facilities (Peggy Hill Team Community Centre, East Bayfield Community Centre, and Allandale Recreation Centre) will be closed on December 25, December 26 and January 1 and will be open the following hours over the holiday period:
- December 24 from 6am to 12pm
- December 27 to 30 with normal operating hours
- December 31 from 6am to 12pm

Parking
Enjoy two-hour free on-street parking downtown during December. Downtown parking (on-street and lots) is free on all statutory holidays. Waterfront parking is enforced 24/7/365; residents must have a waterfront parking permit (or hangtag pass, accepted until December 31, 2023, at which point they expire) to park free, and visitors are required to pay.
Residents are reminded that there are possible exceptions to the Overnight Parking Bylaw over the holidays. On-street parking is permitted on the following dates and times unless a "Winter Maintenance Event" is declared by 4pm on the day prior (December 24, 25, or 31):
- 12:01am to 7am on December 25
- 12:01am to 7am on December 26
- 12:01am to 7am on January 1
Winter Maintenance Events are declared when anticipated weather requires snow plowing, sanding, salting, direct liquid application, snow removal or other winter maintenance operations. When a Winter Maintenance Event is declared, it is communicated via an alert on barrie.ca, Facebook, X, mobile app notification, e-bulletin, and news media.
