City launches online marriage licence application system

New process offers applicants a faster, more convenient way to apply

(Barrie, ON) – The City of Barrie has partnered with ServiceOntario to offer an online marriage licence application system, making it easier and more convenient for couples to obtain their marriage licence.

The system allows applicants to complete their forms online and book an appointment to visit Service Barrie to finalize their licence. The new process streamlines the previous paper-based system, reducing wait times and improving service delivery. Last year, Service Barrie processed approximately 700 marriage licence applications (about 60 per month), and the online system is expected to further reduce in-person counter time. The launch is part of the City’s ongoing work to modernize and simplify resident services.

“We’re always looking for ways to make it easier for residents to access City services,” said Rebecca James-Reid, General Manager of Access Barrie. “This new online system saves applicants time and simplifies what used to be a paper-heavy process. It’s another step forward in our efforts to improve convenience and accessibility.”

“Getting married in Ontario is now simpler and more convenient thanks to our new online marriage licence application program. This saves couples time and effort during one of life’s most important milestones,” said Stephen Crawford, Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement. “It’s another example of how our government is delivering modern, efficient services that make life easier for Ontarians.”
