(Barrie, ON) – Today marks the start of Barrie’s new automated waste collection program. Beginning this week, set out your new carts on your regular collection day by 7 a.m., according to your collection schedule. If it’s your garbage week, set out both carts, 2 ft (0.6 m) apart. If it’s not your garbage week, set out just the organics cart. We appreciate your patience as collection crews adjust to the new process. Temporary delays may occur during this transition, and we thank you for your understanding.
Important reminders when setting carts at the curb:
- Leave 2 ft (0.6 m) of space between each cart and other objects.
- Place carts on a level surface near the road, not on sidewalks or bike lanes.
- Lids must be fully closed, with arrows pointing to the street.
- Yard waste is not permitted in the organics cart
- Manually collected green bins are no longer accepted for collection. All green bin material must be in your organics cart (green, locking lid)
Residential recycling and yard waste collection remain unchanged. Only organics and garbage in City-provided carts will be collected; if your garbage cart is full, you may place additional bags at the curb for collection as long as they have a garbage bag tag attached. Place recycling, yard waste and any excess tagged garbage 2 ft (0.6 m) away from carts at the curb.
Business/institutional property owners had to register to receive municipal waste collection services past September 7. As of today, unregistered business/institutional properties will no longer receive municipal waste collection services and will be responsible for managing their waste at their own expense. Business/institutional properties can still register at barrie.ca/CommercialWasteCollectionRegistration, but may not receive carts until October.
