About the Proposed Development
A zoning by-law amendment to Comprehensive Zoning By-law 2009-141 has been approved to amend the applicable "Institutional (I)" Zone to permit increased the height and reduced parking requirements.
The County of Simcoe has received preliminary approval for a site plan comprising a mixed use building with two towers ranging in height from 9 to 11 storeys, including 215 rental residential units and approximately 4,750 square metres of community and social services agency space.
The project is a large-scale Ontario Works and County Social and Community Services building and will provide a range of affordable housing units as well as space for social, health and community partners.
The County has a created a Rose Street Social and Community Services and Affordable Housing Development Project webpage and a dedicated email to reach their Project Development Team: SCHCBarrieDev@simcoe.ca.
Residents interested in living in the new building, or other County owned/operated housing, can email the County of Simcoe's centralized applications department at cwl@simcoe.ca.
Background
The subject lands previously were occupied by a temporary homeless shelter which has closed, and the modular structure has been removed. For questions about future plans for the facility, please email the County of Simcoe at SCHCBarrieDev@simcoe.ca.
