The watermain work is complete, as the final connections at Wellington and Letitia are done. Restoration works at Wellington and Letitia, including asphalt and curb construction, are expected to be completed by mid-September.

The transmission watermain work is complete, with the exception of final connections at Wellington and Letitia, which will be completed in mid-August. Traffic impacts for that work will be isolated to the work location only. Upon completion of the major watermain work, the Ministry of Transportation’s Sunnidale Road Bridge Replacement began and the Sunnidale Road closure remains in place (Shirley Avenue to Wellington Street) with further restrictions to vehicular and pedestrian access across the Highway 400.

The transmission watermain is nearly complete. Restoration works will be starting the week of July 24.
Upon completion of the restoration works, the project area will be turned over to the Ministry of Transportation project team who will proceed with the replacement of the Sunnidale Bridge.
Final completion including the connections at Wellington and Letitia will be completed in mid-August. Traffic impacts for that work will be isolated to the work location only.

Sunnidale Road will be closed once the Anne Street bridge is reopened to traffic. Sunnidale Road is scheduled to be closed on Monday, June 5, between Letitia Street and Wellington Street West.
There will be no access to Sunnidale Road from Shirley Avenue. Sunnidale Road will only be accessible to local residence traffic and emergency vehicles and will be closed to through traffic during the construction. Access across Highway 400 will be limited to emergency vehicles only at this time.
Please note that upon completion of this project, the MTO will be restricting all access across the bridge for the Sunnidale Bridge replacement project.

The City is resuming work on the new transmission watermain along Sunnidale Road, between Letitia Street and Wellington Street. North Rock Group Limited (North Rock) will be starting June 1, 2023.
The contractor will use traffic control measures to close Sunnidale Road at Wellington Street and Letitia Street. Sunnidale Road is tentatively scheduled to be closed June 1, 2023; however, it will not be closed until Anne Street is reopened to traffic. At this time, access across Highway 400 remains open. Pedestrian access will be maintained during construction. Sunnidale Road will only be accessible to local residence traffic and emergency vehicles, and will be closed to through traffic during the construction. Vehicle entry to properties within the construction limits will be available. At times, direct access to driveways will be interrupted for watermain work.
Upon completion of the work detailed, the MTO will begin the Sunnidale Road Bridge Replacement Project, which will inhibit access across Highway 400 on Sunnidale Road.

The Contractor has completed the first phase of the work and return in spring 2023 to complete the remaining work.
November 23, 2022
The Contractor is nearing the completion of the new 300mm watermain which is expected to be commissioned by early December. Starting December 1, the Contractor will be constructing the new 600mm watermain along Sunnidale Road.
From December 1–16, a single lane closure on Sunnidale Road between Wellington Street West & Letitia Street is scheduled from 7am–5pm daily. Emergency vehicles will have through access. Only one lane will be closed to maintain traffic access. All lanes will be open outside working hours.

The Contractor has completed the connection of the newly aligned storm sewer and sanitary sewer. Over the next few months they will be continuing with the installation of the new and realigned watermains along Sunnidale Road.

ONLY ONE LANE will be closed to maintain traffic access between 9am and 3pm. All lanes will be open during commuting hours in morning and afternoon.

Tunnelling across the highway is now complete and the contractor is working towards completion of the Phase 1 works, which includes installation of the new 300mm watermain, sanitary sewer and storm sewer. Connection of the new services remains to be completed this fall.

A partial road closure on Sunnidale Road between Wellington Street West & Letitia Street is scheduled from October 6 to 14. The roadway will remain open to traffic and emergency vehicles. To maintain traffic access, ONLY ONE LANE will be closed from 9am to 3pm daily. Both lanes will be open during morning and afternoon commuting hours.

The construction contract was awarded in the spring and site preparation tasks have been completed. Work on the sewers and trenchless highway crossing for the watermains will be completed over the summer months into the fall. Intermittent lane closures and some interruptions to pedestrian access are expected for this work, advanced signage will be in place to inform residents.

The City has posted the construction tender for Contractors to submit their bid. The City plans to have a Contractor hired in April 2022, with construction starting in May 2022. Please monitor this webpage for pedestrian and traffic impact updates once construction has commenced.
