Types of Letters & How to Apply

• Building ​Compliance Letter

  A Building Compliance Letter provides information the City may have with respect to the status of building permits, building complaints, Building Code orders, and/or occupancy permitted on a property and is based on information from 1989 to present day.

  A Building Compliance Letter differs from building permit records, which consist of drawings, lot gradings, final inspection reports, occupancy reports, and occupant load reports. 

  To request a Building Compliance Letter, please complete the Building Compliance Letter Request Form​ and submit payment ($103.00 per property, as per the current Fees By-law, Schedule K) to Service Barrie at the first floor of City Hall, 70 Collier Street (open Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm). Payments are also accepted through the drop boxes located at the front and back of City Hall (Collier Street and Worsley Street entrances).

• Environmental Compliance Letter

  Provides information if property was used for the purpose of waste disposal site and if property location is within 500 meters of known landfill.

  Apply for an Environmental Compliance Letter through APLI, the City's online application portal. There is a fee of $61.45 ($54.38 + HST), as per the current Fees By-law, Schedule N. You can expect your letter to arrive via email as a PDF attachment within 15 business days (if payment was made online).   Once registered and logged in, click Submit an Application > Compliance Letters tab > Compliance Letters heading and then follow the prompts.

• Ontario Fire Code Inspection History Compliance Letter

  Provides information resulting from a record search within the last 1 year that identifies if a fire inspection has been completed, the date of said inspection(s), and whether or not deficiencies are outstanding. Specific violations details are not provided.

  Apply for an Ontario Fire Code Inspection History Compliance Letter through APLI, the City's online application portal. There is a fee of $91.25 ($80.75 + HST), as per the current Fees By-law, Schedule G. You can expect your letter to arrive via email as a PDF attachment within 15 business days (if payment was made online). Please check your spam or junk folder if you do not see the email in your inbox.

  For more detailed information, you may opt to submit a Freedom of Information Request or Request a New Inspection (this option requires current property owner consent).

• Zoning Compliance Letter

  A Zoning Compliance Letter provides information the City may have ​with respect to the status of zoning on a property. This includes Zoning Designation and By-laws Pertaining to the Planning Act. 
   
  To request a Zoning Compliance Letter, please complete the Zoning Compliance Letter Request Form ​and submit payment to Service Barrie at the first floor of City Hall, 70 Collier Street (open Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm). Payments are also accepted through the drop boxes located at the front and back of City Hall (Collier Street and Worsley Street entrances).

  The standard fee is $106.42 per property, or $163.35 per property for a 48-hour rush response (as per the current Fees By-law, Schedule Q).
