Water Meter Upgrade Program

The City of Barrie has implemented a mandatory water meter replacement upgrade program. All meters older than 20 years will be replaced. There is no cost for the water meter replacement to the property owner. 

Access into the premises to complete this work is a mandatory requirement in accordance with the Water and Wastewater Billing By-law.

For the purposes of this program, each property is assigned to a zone, which is identified in the notice. See zones map.

If you received a notice in the mail, please book a convenient appointment with our contractor WAMCO Municipal Products, who will attend to remove the existing water meter and install a new water meter. The WAMCO employee must wear an identification tag, hat, and reflection vest with the WAMCO logo displayed.

A follow-up appointment may be required to install a security seal tag on your new meter. If you received a notice in the mail asking you to book a follow-up appointment, please book your Seal Appointment with our contractor, WAMCO Municipal Products. The seal process should take approximately five minutes and does not require any interruption of water service.

If you did not receive a notice in the mail indicating your eligibility, please wait until you receive a letter in the mail before booking an appointment. Installers are working in certain zones and are not able to deviate from the scheduled routes. Any water meter concerns can be addressed by calling Water Operations at 705-792-7920.
