Electrify Barrie Program

The City is working towards ensuring the community is ready to meet the needs of current and future electric vehicle (EV) owners. The Electrify Barrie program includes EV infrastructure projects and education and awareness initiatives.

Moving towards low carbon transportation was identified in the Community Energy and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reduction Plan as a significant aspect of reducing overall GHG emissions in our community and in meeting our climate change goals. Switching to electric vehicles will also help residents, business, and the City save money, drive more sustainably, and use energy efficiently.

  • Raising awareness of electric vehicle (EV) and EV charging stations within Barrie
  • Conducting research to understand potential barriers to EV ownership and utilization
  • Assessing the current state of Barrie’s EV charging stations
  • Hosting in-person education/awareness events

Did you know?  There were 875 electric vehicles registered in Barrie as of December 2023 (0.73% of all vehicles). Of these EVs, roughly 75% are battery electric vehicles and 25% are plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
