The City of Barrie’s Official Plan establishes clear intentions and expectations to create great streets and public spaces, high-quality built form and architecture, and sustainable development that respects heritage while accommodating future needs and growth. The City-Wide Community and Sustainable Design Guidelines advance the Official Plan's design goals and objectives, with a focus on prioritizing people and experience of place.
Draft Community and Sustainable Design Guidelines
The guidelines are currently in draft and are expected to be endorsed by Council in conjunction with approval of the new Zoning By-law. Once the draft guidelines receive endorsement from Council, they will assist developers and designers to envision and develop designs for development that meet the goals, objectives, and policies of the City’s Official Plan, and will provide City Staff with a framework to evaluate proposals through development application review processes.
