The First Floor Gallery, created to profile the incredible artwork of local artists, opened in January 2015. This exhibition space is located at City Hall, between the Service Barrie and Legislative Services counters. The space is open to the public from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).
The First Floor Gallery provides the City an opportunity to serve the arts sector by profiling the works of local artists and beautifying a public area within City Hall, while providing artists with paid exhibition opportunities.

Sustenance by Charlotte Sprague
Sustenance is a celebration of shapes and colours found in fresh produce. It is also a call out to raise awareness of food insecurity, which affects an astounding thirty percent of the population in the North Simcoe communities year-round, including everyone from children to senior citizens. What’s in your cupboard and can you help?
Artist Bio
Born in Hamilton and residing in Midland Ontario, my lifetime preoccupation with the Visual Arts is a happy affliction that continues to evolve through continued education, experimentation with multiple media, and interaction with a number of arts organizations. My creative journey enjoys constancy through joyous use of pigment, and bold, expressive mark-making. Through explorations in acrylic, oil, pen & ink, fiber, collage and mosaics I translate my fascination with colour into figurative, representational, and abstract works.
I enjoy participating in many platforms to showcase my artwork, including juried and non-juried shows, public and private installations, residencies, and artist exchanges. I create for the pleasure of creating, for aesthetics (my own and my patrons’), but also for the platform it affords as a voice to address important issues. I believe that this is the real power of visual arts – delivery of a message without the use or need of words.
My artwork may be found in Public Installations and Private Collections throughout Canada and select galleries. It is also available for viewing and purchase through organizations such as Quest Art, The Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts, the Barrie Arts Club, and on my website.
