Firefighter recruitment is happening until October 14, 2026 at 4:30pm. The Recruitment & Hiring Process
- Receipt of Applications: Complete applications must be submitted through the City of Barrie's online application system by 4:30pm on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Hard-copy applications and applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
- Application Review: The selection committee will review and evaluate each eligible application.
- Rapid Assessment Sessions: A select number of candidates will be invited to participate in a 20-minute assessment with the selection committee.
- Interviews: A select number of candidates from the rapid assessment sessions will be invited to participate in an interview with the selection committee.
- Conditional Offers of Employment: Conditional offers will be made to a select number of candidates.
- References: The City of Barrie will contact references of candidates the selection committee would like to further consider in the recruitment process.
- Medical and Psychological Assessments: Mandatory medical and psychological assessments will be scheduled for all successful candidates.
- Uniform and Bunker Gear Fitting: Candidates offered a position with the City of Barrie will be required to attend a fitting session for uniforms and bunker gear.
- Formal Employment Offers: Formal employment offers will be extended to candidates upon successful fulfillment of all employment conditions.
- Employment Starts: Employment is expected to start March 1, 2027.
