• Electronics Recycling

  Help protect the environment by recycling your used electronics. Bring your old unwanted electronics to the City of Barrie's Waste and Recycling Depot at the landfill site for free. Electronics drop-off is available to Barrie residents only at no cost.

• Yard Waste

  Residential leaf and yard waste can be dropped off at City of Barrie's Landfill Site at 272 Ferndale Drive North. There is no charge for the first 100kg of each load. The remainder of the weight over 100kg is $60/tonne. 

  A $10.00 minimum charge applies to commercial yard waste for loads under ​100kg. Loads 100kg and over are charged $60.00/tonne for total weight of load.

  If the materials are packaged in plastic bags, the bags must be removed. Branches in excess of 4” in diameter will be charged the regular user rate for waste. Sod is accepted at the landfill site as long as the soil has been removed. Topsoil or 'clean fill' is NOT accepted at the landfill site.

• Insula​tion Disposal

  All insulation must be bagged prior to disposal at the Barrie Landfill.

• Asbestos Disposal

  Asbestos is not accepted for disposal at the Landfill Site. Contact a company who is licenced to handle asbestos for proper disposal or for more information.

• Appliances Containing CFCs

  Appliances containing CFCs include refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, water coolers, etc.

• Accepted Materials at the Recycling Depot

  Accepted items include recyclable materials that don’t carry a disposal fee:

  • Tires on or off the rim
  • Organics (items that go in the organics cart)
  • Blue and grey box recycling
  • Cardboard
  • Scrap metal
  • Textiles
  • Electronics – anything with a cord or a battery
  • Broken recycling or organics bins
  • Light bulbs

   
  Batteries are also accepted at the recycling depot during all open hours throughout the season: Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30am to 3:30pm.

  On Saturdays ONLY, all household hazardous waste materials are accepted at this location.

• Items Available for Pickup from the Recyling Depot

  The following items are available free of charge:

  • Organics kitchen catcher (small organics bin)
  • Orange boxes used for Household Hazardous Waste
  • Waste Collection Calendars and educational material, including rate sheets and information about household hazardous waste

  Garbage bag tags are NOT available for pickup at the Recycling Depot because there is no way for the staff to track and sell tags. These items can be purchased at the scalehouse at the top of the hill. Please also refer to Garbage Collection for an up-to-date list of retailers.
