Batteries

This item is hazardous waste. Proper disposal options are outlined below.

During Battery Collection Week, held the first full week of November, residents can set out batteries for curbside collection. Get full details, including accepted battery types.

Year-round, residents can bring single-use batteries (AAA, AA, A, C, D, 9-Volt and button), as well as cell phone, laptop and car batteries*, and battery packs, to the Barrie Landfill (272 Ferndale Drive North), Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30am to 3:30pm, for free recycling.

Batteries are an exception to other household hazardous waste, as batteries have more options for disposal at the landfill site.

*EV batteries are not accepted at the Barrie Landfill. Contact your car dealership for disposal options.

Storage Prior to Disposal

Prior to disposal, batteries should be stored in a cool, dry location, away from any flammable material. During storage, battery terminals should not be in contact with conductive materials. Some battery types require terminal protection, like taping. Visit Call2Recycle for detailed information on how to protect terminals.
