Doors Open Barrie showcases the history and architecture of our city and celebrates some of the places that make our city special. Each year, communities across Ontario dedicate a day for local sites of interest to be opened to the public for free tours. Doors Open Barrie will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Doors Open is hosted by the City of Barrie in partnership with the City’s Heritage Committee and the Ontario Heritage Trust.

Getting Around Doors Open Barrie
Doors Open Barrie sites are located throughout the city, so visitors are encouraged to plan their route in advance.
Barrie Transit
Barrie Transit is a convenient option for travelling between locations. Plan your trip using MyRideBarrie or the Barrie ToD App. MyRideBarrie helps plan conventional (fixed) route trips, while the ToD App is specifically for Transit ON Demand users (note: trip planning for the full Barrie Transit network, including Transit ON Demand and fixed routes, is available on the ToD app, so ToD users can plan their entire trip in one app). Transfers are valid for 90 minutes, making it easier to connect between routes while exploring the city.
Parking
Parking availability varies by location. Several participating sites are located in or near downtown Barrie, where visitors can use municipal parking lots, the Collier Street Parkade and on-street parking. Learn more about parking options downtown or view the interactive parking map. Downtown municipal parking is free on weekends, making it a convenient option. Visitors are encouraged to park once and walk or use Barrie Transit between nearby downtown sites where possible. For sites located outside the downtown core, free private parking is offered on or adjacent to the properties.

Doors Open Ontario is an Ontario Heritage Trust program inviting communities across the province to open the doors, gates and courtyards of their unique and most fascinating cultural sites so residents and visitors can see inside! It’s a chance to explore Ontario’s heritage treasures at free public events across the province.
The program was launched in 2002 to create access, awareness and excitement about the province’s heritage and it provides unique opportunities to explore and enjoy some of the most interesting places in Ontario cities, towns and villages.
