Child & Youth Recreation Programs

• Camp Access Program fee assistance: provides eligible individuals 6–13 years of age the opportunity to participate in an exciting summer camp experience. 
• recACCESS Program fee assistance: provides support to low-income families and individuals by providing qualifying participants with a RecPASS membership and youth credits that can be applied to the registration fee for qualifying programs and activities.

The goal of the City of Barrie Day Camps is to ensure all campers have a rewarding, memorable, safe and fun experience while participating in our program. Providing a safe environment is a collaborative process. We ask that parents/guardians refer to the Fair Play Policy and share the rules/guidelines with their child/ren:

Our staff to participant ratios reflect our commitment to quality program supervision. Our camps operate with a ratio of 1 leader for every 10 campers. All staff are certified in First Aid, CPR C and require a criminal reference check. In addition they are trained to interact with children in a positive and developmentally appropriate manner as all camp staff are certified in the HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development.

A full refund will be issued for withdrawal requests received more than 5 business days prior to the camp start date. An administration fee applies. Exceptions apply if the participant has a doctor's note. Please refer to the Recreation Refund Policy for full information. 

Campers 10 years of age and under MUST always have adult supervision during morning drop off and afternoon pick up. Please ensure that regular escorts and emergency contacts are recorded with your registration. Only those adults listed will be permitted to pick up your child(ren). Please notify the staff team if your child will NOT be attending camp that day, or of any change in your child’s pick-up routine. Children are NOT allowed to leave the program without written consent from a parent or guardian. A late fee of $5/15 minutes will be charged for late pickups.

Swimming is part of many day camps, and the swim test ensures the camp experience is safe and enjoyable for all participants.

Swim Test Criteria

To pass the swim test, campers will need to:

1. Swim two widths of the designated swim area using any stroke or combination of strokes. Swimmers must not touch the bottom of the pool during the test.
2. Demonstrate ability and comfort to submerge face and ears under the water.
    

Campers who do not pass the swim test will need to wear a lifejacket in the pool.
