Committees & Task Forces

Committees, task forces, boards, and panels support opportunities for public input into decision-making. Members of Barrie City Council are also members of General Committee (a standing committee), select reference committees, and select advisory committees. The standing, reference, and advisory committees listed below are included within the City's Procedural By-law. Calls for applications are posted on this website when there are vacancies to be filled. 

Type: Advisory Committee
Mandate: To undertake an examination of City Council compensation.
Type: Reference Committee
Mandate: As Reference Committees work through their individual mandates, the Executive Committee is used to assist in select collaborative initiatives. This committee does not fall under the City’s Procedural By-law.
Type: Reference Committee
Mandate: To study and report to the General Committee on specific subject matters.
Type: Standing Committee
Mandate: Duties include studying and reporting to Council on all matters brought to it by reference committees.
Type: Advisory Committee
Mandate: Responsible for establishing the criteria for the evaluation of properties of architectural or historical value and prepare and maintain a list of all properties worthy of conservation under the Heritage Act.
Type: Reference Committee
Mandate: To study and report to the General Committee on specific subject matters.

Mandate: Control and manage the City's investments pursuant to the Prudent Investment Standard and the Investment Policy Statement adopted by City Council.
Type: Other
Mandate: To hear and determine all applications filed in accordance with section 88.33 and 88.35 of the Municipal Elections Act.

Mandate: To review all nominations for the Order of the Spirit Catcher awards and determine the recipients, and the date at which the presentation to the recipients will be made at Council.
