Committees & Task Forces

Standing Committee

General Committee is a standing committee, including all members of Council with the mayor presiding as Chair. Formal channels to communicate with standing committees include Circulation List and Public Meetings.

Reference Committees

Reference committees report to General Committee, then City Council. In general, the role of a Reference Committee is to provide advice and guidance to City Council on the direction and nature of policy development and to complete fact finding and detailed analysis of the matters before them.  The business dealt with by each reference committee must fall within the duties under the Procedural By-law. Formal channels to communicate with reference committees include Circulation List and Open Delegations.

Advisory Committees

Barrie City Council has established numerous advisory committees to ensure opportunities for public input into community decision-making. The majority of advisory committees meet on a monthly basis. 

Other 

Other types of committee, boards, or panels exist for specific purposes and may or may not fall under the City’s Procedural By-law that governs the rules of procedure for Council and committees.
