The following media releases were issued by the City of Barrie's Marketing & Communications Department within the last two years.


The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is continuing work on constructing a new interchange at Essa Road and Highway 400, and requires a major closure this weekend as part of the Essa Road Interchange/Highway 400 Overpass Replacement project.

The City of Barrie reminds residents that from December 1 through to March 31, on-street parking is not permitted on City streets from 12:01 to 7 a.m., and 3 to 6 a.m. within the Downtown Business Improvement Area.

Residents can register for City of Barrie winter recreation and culture programming starting Tuesday, December 5.

The City will end the residential battery recycling box program in selected City facilities effective November 30, but batteries will continue to be accepted at the Waste & Recycling Depot past November 30 (during operational hours).

Automated speed enforcement will be in effect starting this week in the City of Barrie to enforce speed limits in select community safety zones.

The City of Barrie is declaring a Winter Maintenance Event to allow crews to effectively clear the streets tonight and tomorrow night. This means that on-street parking is prohibited November 28 and 29, 3–6am within the Downtown Business Improvement Area, and on other City streets 12:01–7am.

Today marks one year since the Mayor and Council were sworn in for the 2022-2026 Council term.

This afternoon, Mayor Alex Nuttall announced the launch of an engagement campaign called Envision Barrie.

The City of Barrie is seeking public feedback for future playground improvements at East Bayfield Park (99 Hanmer Street East) and Eastview Community Park (453 Grove Street East).

The City of Barrie will hold an in-person Town Hall on November 22 at 8 p.m. in the Council Chamber about the Official Plan and the recent modifications from the provincial government.
