The City of Barrie was recognized with a Circle of Excellence – 5 Blooms Gold award at the 2023 Communities in Bloom National/International Symposium and Awards Ceremonies, which were held on September 30 in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo, Alberta.

Barrie Fire Chief Cory Mainprize is calling on all residents to test their smoke alarms tomorrow, September 28, for Ontario’s Test Your Smoke Alarm Day.

To recognize National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, opportunities for community members to learn and reflect are being offered leading up to and on September 30 in a collaborative effort between the Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin Primary Care Team of the Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle (BANAC), the Barrie Native Friendship Centre (BNFC), Red Quills, the City of Barrie, and the Barrie Public Library.

The City of Barrie has been recognized by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) for three economic development initiatives.

The City is asking the public to provide feedback on potential names for the future Allandale Transit Mobility Hub, to be located within Barrie's Allandale area next to the existing railway.

The City of Barrie’s 2022 Heritage Awards were announced at last evening’s City Council meeting.

The City’s Business in the Parks Program has been extended until December 31, 2023 for Meridian Place, Sunnidale Park, and the Kiwanis Pavilion at Southshore Park.

The City of Barrie is creating a new comprehensive Zoning By-law, which is designed to implement the vision and policies of Barrie’s adopted Official Plan. The Official Plan is currently awaiting approval by the Province.

The City is accepting applications from eligible local organizations for the 2023 Recreation and Sport Community Grant, which provides funding to enhance access to recreation and sport opportunities in Barrie.
