Virtual Meetings During the COVID-19 Pandemic
On March 19, the Province of Ontario passed the Municipal Emergency Act, 2020 to permit virtual participation in council, committee or local board meetings. City Council, General Committee, and Planning Committee meetings are being live streamed on the
City's YouTube channel and Rogers TV. Visit

Council is the policy-forming and decision-making body of the City of Barrie. It is comprised of the Mayor and 10 Councillors (representing 10 wards) who are each elected for a four-year term.
Regular meetings of City Council are held every other Monday at 7pm (or directly 5pm during the COVID-19 emergency), except during July, unless otherwise specified by resolution of Council and except when Monday is a holiday. Meetings are streamed on
Rogers TV. Formal channels to communicate with City Council include Circulation List and Deputations.
General Committee is comprised of all members of Council. The Mayor presides as Chair. Regular General Committee meetings occur every other Monday, alternating with Council meetings, and start at 7pm (or directly following the 7pm Planning Committee meeting during COVID-19). Meetings are streamed on
General Committee duties include studying and reporting to Council on all matters brought to it by reference committees. Formal channels to communicate with General Committee include Circulation List and Public Meetings.
Planning Committee is comprised of all members of Council. The Mayor presides as Chair. During the COVID-19 Emergency, Planning Committee meetings occur at 5pm on select Monday evenings. Meetings are streamed on
The Planning Committee hears all public meetings pursuant to matters under the Planning Act, and consider staff reports concerning planning matters, including but not limited to development applications and planning policy. Formal channels to
communicate with Planning Committee include Circulation List and Public Meetings.
Reference Committee meetings are not occurring at this time. City Council has two reference committees, which report to Council when required within the terms of their mandates. Formal channels to communicate with reference committees include Circulation List and Open Delegations.
Advisory Committee meetings are not occurring at this time. Council has also established a number of advisory committees to provide feedback on specific areas of interest. These committees report to a Reference Committee and meet on a monthly basis, or at the call of the Chair.
