Environmental Education Centre

The Environmental Education Centre was designed to provide a place to educate about Barrie’s waste management programs through play-based learning activities. The Environmental Education Centre is located at the Barrie Landfill. It is open from the beginning of May until the end of September.

Free learning workshops

The City of Barrie invites local school classes, groups and organizations to participate in workshops at the Landfill’s Education Centre and Interpretive Berm. Teaching children about environmental initiatives can help them learn life-long lessons about environmental responsibility. Information is provided in a fun and interactive setting that can be customized to appeal to the age range of your group.

Workshops are approximately 50 to 60 minutes in length and occur on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. The program includes a visit to the Education Centre. Educators will lead a group discussion on waste issues. Attendees will discuss sorting of recyclables, organics and garbage. They will participate in one or more activities depending on the time.
