Recycling Depot

The Recycling Depot is located at the landfill site and open seasonally. This facility helps reduce wait times and make dropping off recycling and household hazardous waste materials more efficient.

Note: Residential household hazardous waste is only accepted on Saturdays from 8:30am to 3:30pm. Get more information here.

When and Where to Visit the Recycling Depot

The Recycling Depot at the lower gate area of the City’s landfill site, located at  272 Ferndale Drive North. It is open seasonally from April until late November (weather dependent) from Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30am to 3:30pm.

Accepted Materials

Accepted items include recyclable materials that don’t carry a disposal fee. On Saturdays, household hazardous waste materials are also accepted at this location. Materials include:

  • Tires
  • Organic – Green bin
  • Blue and grey box recycling
  • Cardboard
  • Scrap Metal
  • Textiles
  • Electronics – anything with a cord or a battery
  • Broken recycling bin
  • Broken Back Yard Composters (City Sold Only)
  • Broken Rain Barrels (City Sold Only)

Items Available for Pickup

  • Organics (green) bins: small and large
  • Recycling boxes: grey and blue
  • Waste Collections Calendars and educational material, including rate sheets and information about household hazardous waste

Planning Your Trip to the Landfill

If you are planning to take a trip to the landfill with a mixed load, sort your materials effectively so you can stop at the Recycling Depot first on your way in before heading to the top of the hill towards the Waste and Recycling Depot; where additional material that have a fee are disposed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I purchase bag tags here on busy days at the Landfill?

Unfortunately, there is no way for the staff to track and sell bag tags at the Recycling Depot. These items can be purchased at the Scalehouse. For more information on additional places that sell bag tags please click here.

What if I have garbage and recycling to dispose of?

Planning your trip to use the Recycling Depot before heading to the Scalehouse is an effective way to sort your materials without having to pay for free items all together with your garbage.

If mattresses are recycled, why can I not drop them at the Recycling Depot?

Mattresses are sent out to a separate company that recycles over 95% of the material. To cover the shipping and recycling costs, mattresses and box springs carry a surcharge. Please drop these items off at the Waste and Recycling Depot. Learn more here

Can I bring yard waste to the Recycling Depot?

No, yard waste is accepted at the landfill, with no charge for the first 100kg of each load no charge. For more information on disposal fees at the Landfill please use the Landfill Rate Sheet.
