The City of Barrie is proud to support events and initiatives honouring our Canadian Armed Forces. A number of significant military anniversaries were commemorated in 2024, including the RCAF's 100th anniversary and the 80th anniversary of D-Day. 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day. Flags Honouring Simcoe County WWII Veterans
On May 7, 2025, the Barrie Legion unveiled new flag banners honouring Simcoe County WWII Veterans who fought for the freedom we cherish today. Each flag features the names and photos of these brave soldiers, preserving their legacy for future generations.
2024 Events
April 1, 2024, marked 100 years of service for the RCAF as an independent military element. The RCAF 2024 Centennial was a unique opportunity to celebrate this milestone with all Canadians.
