The City is preparing a Community Design Plan (CDP) to guide the transformation of Bayfield Street and surrounding areas into vibrant, mixed-use neighbourhoods. The Bayfield CDP will set out a shared community vision and development framework to guide the anticipated growth and redevelopment along Bayfield Street, from Sophia Street to the northern City limit.

The City of Barrie is extending the full road closure at McKay Road East between Veteran’s Drive and Huronia Road until the end of the year. The closure is required as part of the McKay Road East Watermain & Trunk Sanitary Sewer project.
The City of Barrie remains under a Significant Weather Event as crews work to restore winter maintenance standards across the city. Crews are conducting snow removal and snow lifts on roads that have become narrowed due to the volume of snowfall. The Significant Weather Event cannot be lifted until all narrowed roads have been addressed.
The City of Barrie is now accepting applications for the Conservation of Built Heritage Grant Program, which provides funding to support property owners undertaking the restoration, and/or renovation, of heritage properties.
In an effort to support the creation of more affordable housing options in Barrie, the City is reducing building permit application fees for additional residential units (ARUs) by 50 per cent in 2026. The City is also offering full rebates on building permit application fees on units that achieve occupancy, or equivalent (final interior inspection), within twelve months of permit issuance.
