Beaches & Splash Pads

Barrie's beaches and splash pads offer residents and visitors opportunities to beat the summer heat!

The Heritage Park water feature and Lampman Lane Park splash pad are closed for the season. Due to the design of the drainage system for the water feature in Heritage Park, during the operating season, fountains usually run for 45 seconds then turn off for 90 seconds to allow for full drainage and prevent flooding.

Four main beaches on the shores of beautiful Kempenfelt Bay are regularly maintained by the City:

Parents and guardians are always reminded that children require direct supervision at the beach. Always practise water safety.

At Centennial Beach and Johnson’s Beach, signs are posted behind each lifeguard chair to communicate when lifeguards are on duty. Swim buoy lines and drop-off markers are anchored out from the beach. Swim buoy lines including drop-off markers are anchored at Centennial, Johnson’s, Minets and Tyndale Beaches. Swim buoy lines mark the designated swimming areas recommended for swimmers.

Parking

A digital waterfront parking permit is required to park for free near Barrie's beaches. Drivers can park without a permit for $10/hour with a daily max of $50 in specific waterfront parking areas. This is enforced 24/7/365. Signage is in place.

Accessibility Mat at Centennial Beach

During the City's lifeguard season, an accessibility mat is anchored on the sand at Centennial Beach between lifeguard chairs #4 and #5. This mat is accessible from the boardwalk, permitting wheelchairs and strollers the ability to wheel closer to the water's edge.
