In preparation for the transition to curbside cart collection on September 8, 2025, a 240L garbage cart was delivered to all Barrie properties in the summer of 2025 unless the property owner chose to substitute for a smaller 120L garbage cart.
We encourage you to try out your garbage cart size for a little while; however, if you received your cart and would prefer a different size, the property owner can request a garbage cart size exchange.
Reminder: Carts are assigned to the property address and equipped with a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag and a unique serial number linked to the property. They must stay with the assigned property—even if you move.
Owners of exclusively residential or exclusively business/institutional properties can submit exchange requests. To discuss size exchanges for mixed-use properties, please contact Service Barrie at 705-726-4242 or ServiceBarrie@barrie.ca.
Requests & Exchange Periods
The below table outlines when your cart exchange will be completed depending on when your request was submitted (for requests submitted in December 2025/January 2026). You will be contacted via the email you provide in the cart exchange request form with specific cart setout instructions for your exchange (including that the cart(s) to be exchanged must be in front of the property for the entire exchange period).
