Waste Item Lookup Tool

Not sure how to dispose of an item in Barrie? Look it up to see how it's properly sorted for curbside pickup or otherwise. If unable to find what you're looking for, please call 705-739-4219 or e-mail RethinkWaste@barrie.ca to have the item added to the search results.

The future of waste management includes a circular economy. This means we need to rethink the traditional three Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) and consider the value of materials and products before they become waste. Let's rethink waste!

Please remember to ensure your materials are curbside by 7am (4:30am in the downtown BIA) for collection. If items are not curbside by this time, the City cannot guarantee they will be collected. Routing changes that could affect collection times can often occur for a number of reasons including weather, road closures and vehicle breakdowns.

While Barrie is geographically located in Simcoe County, the City of Barrie is governed separately. There are some differences to sorting items for curbside collection in the County and the City as different processors are used. If you live in Barrie, please refer to this lookup tool to be certain where items should go.

Batteries

This item is hazardous waste. Proper disposal options are outlined below.

Outside of Battery Collection Week each November, do not place batteries curbside for regular waste collection. Year-round, batteries can be disposed of free-of-charge at the Barrie Landfill, 272 Ferndale Drive North (open to Barrie residents only).  Batteries are accepted at the landfill in three areas

  • Waste & Recycling Depot*
Open Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30am–3:30pm. Located at the top of the hill, past the scalehouse.
  • Recycling Depot
Open seasonally (generally April to late November), with HHW being accepted on Saturdays only. Located at the bottom of the hill.
  • Household Hazardous Waste Facility
Open Saturdays only, 8:30am–3:30pm. Located at the top of the hill, past the scalehouse.

*Only household batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 9-volt and button batteries) can be dropped off at the landfill's Waste & Recycling Depot. Lithium-ion batteries (those from cell phones, drones, and remote-control cars) must be disposed of at the HHWF or the Recycling Depot on Saturdays only.
